Miss Stephanie West is a highly-experienced consultant ophthalmologist practicing in Southampton. Miss West treats both adults and children and specialises in cataract surgery, pediatric eye conditions including amblyopia and strabismus, adult squints, double vision and complex oculomotility disorders. She has been a consultant ophthalmologist at Southampton General Hospital since 2013, where she has previously been Clinical Director for Ophthalmology and CESR training program lead.
Her aim is to have a positive impact on her patients by maximising their vision or improving their appearance and quality of life. She firmly believes it is important that patients receive the right diagnosis as early as possible and that they are provided with the full range of treatment options so that they can make informed decisions.

Training
After graduating from Southampton University Medical School, Miss West completed specialist ophthalmology training in the highly regarded centres of Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham and The Bristol Eye Hospital.
She subsequently undertook two years of subspecialty training in paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus including a prestigious fellowship at Sickkids, Toronto, for which she was awarded the JD Morin prize for best fellow. During a second fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, Miss West gained extensive knowledge and training in treating children's eye diseases and squints. She has specialist expertise in paediatric ophthalmology, squints, general ophthalmology and cataract surgery. Her clinical work includes training junior surgeons and allied clinical professionals, research and educational activities as the College tutor. In addition to her clinical work, Miss West she has participated in advisory boards for the pharmaceutical industry on Femto cataract surgery and treatment of retinopathy of prematurity. She is also on the board of directors for the Association of Ophthalmologists Specialist Indemnity Scheme 'AOOSIS'. |
